October 19th, 2016
Dear Parents & the larger Cypress community:

Thank you so much for your fundraising support! Cypress fell just shy of our goal for the Drive for Schools, raising $3470, but I’d like to round up and say we hit our target. Well done and good luck with that car! (or cash, or other prizes, too)! I’ve never been to the actual raffle, but all are invited to attend: The drawing will be held at the Boardwalk at 1pm this Sunday, October 23.

I’d like to talk about Halloween. October 31st is on a Monday this year, and I hope students choosing to celebrate will make sure they do so safely, whether we’re talking about the weekend before or the night of. Tuesday November 1st will be an early dismissal day, with a modified schedule. 1st period classes will start promptly at 8:30 AM (2nd at 9:50), however, and I expect Cypress students to show up on time and ready for school.

I love costumes. I love the creativity and spirit that comes with dressing up. However, we will not allow weapons of any kind, or masks that cover or obscure the face. References to alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other drugs will not be allowed. We ask that people are sensitive to all students in avoiding both cultural appropriation and extreme violence. Finally, we ask that you respect the Elementary school community on and around our campus. Don’t scare the kids, dress as a clown this year, or wear something that wouldn’t be appropriate in front of a 2nd grader.

Remember that October 31st is a school day. Your costume should not be too small or too large in such a way that would make it difficult to maintain the classroom environment (too small: too revealing of your body / too large: taking up too much space or creating a safety hazard). If you or your student have any questions, please ask them in advance of Monday morning on the 31st. If you’re not sure, ask us (although if you’re not sure your costume is appropriate, you might be answering your own question).

Thanks again for your support,
Gracias otra vez por tu apoyo,

  • Traffic Control
You're cooperation is requested regarding our neighbor, Del Mar Elementary School. There are traffic controls on Merrill St. during Elementary drop off and pick up times. Personally, I generally use Alice St. & Jamie Ln. to arrive at Cypress, and I request that you do the same. Whether there are traffic breaks and barriers set up or not, I’d like to minimize the number of cars driving through an Elementary campus at all hours. If you do forget, please respect the elementary school’s speed bumps, barricades, curbs, and speed limit. Thanks for your cooperation.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
